With this issue, Diversity/Careers launches its first-ever Best Diversity Companies Readers' Choice Survey. This is your opportunity to cast your vote for the companies you associate with the best diversity practices. The ones that, in your opinion, practice what they preach.
There are certainly plenty of "best" and "top" lists in the diversity world, but almost all of them are based on questionnaires that companies themselves fill out. We feel that it's important to know what YOU, our readers, think.
The survey is Web-based; to be part of the survey, go to www.diversitycareers.com and follow the link there. You'll be given an opportunity to name the companies that you think are the best for women, African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, GLBT folks and people with disabilities. Then you'll note which company you think has the most family-friendly and flexible workplace policies; which company has the most robust supplier diversity program; and much more.
The survey is completely anonymous. We will ask you to identify yourself as a new grad or an experienced technical pro, but nothing more.
This will be an interesting look at how well large and small companies, government entities and non-profits are getting their diversity message out to our readers (that's you!). You can vote for companies based on what you know about them personally, of course, but you should draw on your broader perceptions too: what have you read about these companies? What have you heard about them from friends or co-workers?
We'll keep the voting open for a while, but don't lose time; get your vote in now! We'll report our detailed
results in the December 2006/January 2007 issue. We'll let you know which companies scored highest in each category and how companies in some major industries stack up against each other.
We're excited about the survey, and curious to see the results. And whatever those results turn out to be, you'll know that you had a part in them.
